About

Shamatree Shakya is originally from Nepal and earned her Bachelor of Science in her home country. Upon graduation, she worked as a bedside nurse in the neurological unit, where she deepened her research interests in understanding and managing cardiometabolic health, multimorbidity, and geriatric syndrome. She broadened her research focus on health disparities and social determinants of health while pursuing her Master’s in Gerontology at Miami University and doctoral degree at Duke University. Her doctoral dissertation focused on understanding biological and psychosocial determinants of frailty in the context of social determinants of health. Her long-term research goals are to develop biobehavioral and mobile health interventions to manage chronic cardiometabolic diseases, related syndromes and promote healthy aging.
