David Ansari

About

David Ansari will be joining the Department of Medical Education as a Bridge to Faculty Scholar. His research focuses on the mental health and wellbeing of health professionals, as well as how health professionals learn to support vulnerable patients and clients. His research on mental health care among refugees and immigrants in France demonstrates the complexities that health professionals face when attempting to address the social determinants of mental health. His current book and article projects examine evolving perceptions of race, multiculturalism, and diversity among mental health professionals in France. His next projects will focus on initiatives to support the mental health of clinical students and professionals.

He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, his Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics, and his PhD from the University of Chicago. In addition to his research, he is committed to teaching in health professions education and global health and mental health. Prior to joining the University of Illinois at Chicago, he was a Lecturer in Sociocultural Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis.
