NLEI Marks 51 Years of Service with Waterfront Event

The National Latino Education Institute (NLEI), a workforce training, employment and educational advocacy organization, celebrated 51 years of service with a recent event at the Chicago Yacht Club to honor its key business partners.

Elba Arranda-Suh, executive director at NLEI, welcomed guests and thanked their partners–including ComEd, MZI Group, Goya and 8 Hospitality Group–for their ongoing support, adding that these companies not only provide guidance and support, but also hire their program graduates.

NLEI and UIC share a similar working relationship. The organization’s graduates often continue their studies at UIC to earn advanced degrees and are hired at the UIC hospital or at college positions.

“We have a student who came to us without any formal education, went through our program and continued at UIC to earn a master’s degree in public health,” said Arranda-Suh. “This is one of many success stories that show how students can transform their lives through education.”

Arranda-Suh is a UIC graduate and has supported the university’s ongoing efforts to drive educational opportunities within the community.
