The University of Illinois at Chicago welcomes more than 5,000 international students and scholars to our campus each year. As you may be aware, UIC is an incredibly diverse institution. We have one of the most racially & ethnically diverse student bodies in the country and are a federally-designated Minority Serving Institution. International students are an important part of that diversity.

International students come to UIC for many fields of study—the top areas being in STEM, English language acquisition, and business. Over 100 countries are represented here at UIC. As of Fall 2018, the top ten were: China (27%), India (35%), Iran (4%), Pakistan (3%), Vietnam (3%), Taiwan (2%), Korea (2%), Saudi Arabia (2%), Italy (2%), Canada (1%).

Regardless of the number of international students in your classroom, this module provides content knowledge and strategies for making your classroom welcoming for all international students. This module has two parts. Part 1 focuses on “pre-arrival” and “academic success.” Part 2 focuses on “health and wellness” and “sense of belonging.”
