About

David X. Marquez, PhD, earned a doctoral degree and a master's degree in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Loyola University Chicago. He is a Professor and Department Head of Kinesiology and Nutrition and Director of the Exercise Psychology Laboratory at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). He is also Leader of the Latino Core of the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center.

Dr. Marquez has demonstrated significant contributions that promote DEIA (A for accessibility) initiatives throughout his career, namely in his research focused on reducing health disparities in the Latino community and providing advancement opportunities for students of Latin descent. In sum, 77 of 131 of Dr. Marquez’ peer-reviewed articles have focused on Latinos, African Americans, or Asian Americans and 53 of 69 of his invited lectures have focused on work with Latinos or DEIA. Importantly, Dr. Marquez has offered many research assistant experiences through his research. He has trained 7 Latino/a PhD students and has had more than 80 undergraduate research assistants, almost all of whom are Latino. He has had close ties with the Hispanic Center of Excellence (HCOE) and with the Latin American Recruitment and Educational Services (LARES) at UIC.
