About
Dr. Aginah M. Muhammad is the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Success in the Office of Student Success and Belonging at the University of Illinois Chicago. Aginah provides leadership, advocacy, coordination, recommendations, and implementation of strategies that build a long-term base for academic and non-academic initiatives that support Black student success at the institution. In this role, she also oversees program management and administration of units including the African American Academic Network (AAAN), CHANCE, TRIO/Upward Bound, and other programs and initiatives.
Aginah brings nearly 25 years of administrative experience in public service including K-12 education. Aginah joined the University of Illinois Chicago in 2013, as an Undergraduate Program Development Specialist in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs, where she was responsible for managing several key initiatives designed to promote student success. She also served as the inaugural Director of the Office of First-Year Initiatives. Prior to her appointment as the Vice Provost for Student Success, Aginah served as the Executive Director of the Council on Teacher Education (CTE).
Aginah’s service to the university includes membership on several committees including but not limited to: Co-Chair of the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Blacks (CCSB); Secretary, Academic Professional Advisory Council (APAC); African American Student Success Initiative Subcommittee; and Student Conduct Committee.
Aginah earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice (1997) and M.Ed. in Leadership and Administration (1999) from the University of Illinois Chicago; and Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (2012). In addition to Aginah’s administrative and academic experience at UIC, she has taught at South Suburban College and the Chicago School of Professional Psychology where she served on several dissertation committees. Aginah is very active in her community where she is a founding board member of the Democratic Women of the Southland Region and president of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Parent Association.
