LCC Highlights Intersectional Research with Bridge to the Faculty Scholars Series
During the spring semester, the Latino Cultural Center will host four Bridge to the Faculty scholars as they share their experiences and respective research with the UIC community. The “Radical Research from BIPOC Scholars at UIC” series will offer insights into the complexity and specificity of their work and how the lives of those in the margins are impacted through an intersectional lens.
The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement describes the Bridge to the Faculty (B2F) program as “a recruitment program designed to attract underrepresented postdoctoral scholars with the goal of a direct transition to a tenure-track junior faculty position after two years.”
The first of these sessions will be held virtually on Wednesday, February 9th from 3PM -4PM and feature Dr. Marisol Becerra from Public Administration and Policy in the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA). Dr. Becerra will present her research on Civic Engagement, specifically examining the complexities of increasing park access in Latinx neighborhoods, including Little Village in Chicago.
Additional upcoming sessions will be held on:
- March 9th – Featuring Dr. Maria Eugenia Lopez-Garcia, Museum and Exhibition Studies (MUSE)
- March 30th – Featuring Dr. Xiomara Cornejo, School of Theater & Music
- April 13th – Featuring Dr. Monique Holt, Earth and Environmental Sciences
This series is sponsored by the UIC Latino Cultural Center, UIC Urban Planning and Public Affairs, and the UIC Office of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement.
