LCC director recognized by campus award
Rosa Cabrera, PhD, executive director of the UIC Latino Cultural Center (LCC), was recently named as a recipient of the 2024 UIC Award of Merit. The award recognizes the excellence of civil service and academic professional employees in regard to their contributions to the campus community.
The Award of Merit (AOM) is a university-wide award honoring staff who exhibit excellence in service, commitment and dedication.
Cabrera is being celebrated for her work in cultivating the LCC as a space that is welcoming, nurturing, vibrant and educational for everyone who visits. Additionally, her representation of UIC at various external organizations and conferences and her work with the Heritage Garden project are also being highlighted.
“This award recognizes the significant function of the Latino Cultural Center on campus and the capacity of its staff to support the academic and personal growth of our students that is shaped by community life and broader national and global conditions,” Cabrera shared.
Cabrera was honored at the Employee Recognition Award Ceremony held on November 7.
