GSC Associate Director wins national LGBT award
Moisés Villada, associate director of the UIC Gender and Sexuality Center (GSC), was honored as one of the recipients of the Distinguished Achievement in the Profession Award from the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals.
Per the consortium’s designation, the Distinguished Achievement in the Profession Award recognizes and honors individuals whose work has attained preeminence in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender services and programs in higher education. This work includes areas related to practice and policy, research and theory, as well as programs and service. The work exemplifies the profession and is represented by a broad scope of activities and accomplishments.
Villada’s award was announced at the 2024 Consortium Virtual Drive-In and Business Meeting held on April 26. It highlights the meaningful contributions to LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members that Villada’s work and presence has made over the past 17 years of his career at UIC.
“Moisés has earned the trust and respect of all who have had the pleasure to work with him, and we are so proud that he has received recognition from the Consortium for all of his years of unwavering advocacy, leadership and critical love,” shared Billy Huff, director of the GSC. “It is absolutely because of folks like Moisés that our LGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff can dream of a better world to come.”
