Bridge to Faculty alum awarded NSF grant

Rodrigo Solinís-Casparius

Rodrigo Solinís-Casparius, PhD, a UIC Bridge to Faculty (B2F) scholar from the program’s first cohort in 2020 and a current assistant professor in the UIC Department of Anthropology, recently won an award from the US National Science Foundation (NSF).

Solinís-Casparius was awarded the NSF-Senior Archaeology Award for his project entitled “Becoming Purépecha: Genesis of an Empire at Angamuco, Michoacán.” Together with his co-principal investigator–Christopher Fisher, PhD, professor in the Colorado State University Department of Anthropology and Geography and Environmental Affairs–he will be doing three years of summer field sessions in Mexico starting in 2025.

The project is focused on identifying symbols of imperial transition and will involve excavating and mapping several mortuary areas, public plazas and household complexes.
