2024 Asian American Congratulatory honors new graduates

The large audience of new graduates and their community at the Asian American congratulatory.

On April 26, graduating students and their support networks gathered in the Illinois Room of Student Center East (SCE) for the 2024 Asian American Congratulatory. The event recognized and celebrated fall 2023, spring 2024 and upcoming summer 2024 graduates’ accomplishments.

This year’s congratulatory was hosted by the newly-launched Asian American Student Academic Program (AASAP). AASAP, which held their inaugural ribbon cutting ceremony on March 28, provides a supportive and enriching environment for Asian American students through culturally engaged academic advising, financial literacy and career development initiatives and facilitating personal growth.

MC’d by the AASAP staff, the congratulatory included remarks from key UIC stakeholders and concluded with a sing-along led by the Asian American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC) and a distribution of cords.

Karen J. Colley, PhD, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, celebrated the graduates with her remarks.

“Graduating students, I want you to know that during your time at UIC you have left a lasting mark on your professors, staff and leadership, helping each of us to grow and learn alongside you and, ultimately, leaving UIC a better place than it was when you first arrived. For that, on behalf of the university, you have my heartfelt thanks. Your achievement is part of a decades’ long UIC legacy of dedication to educational and personal transformation that extends beyond borders both geographic and political, which will continue to expand as you take your first steps into the rest of your lives.”
