Invest in Yourself – Fostering your Mentor Network
March 19, 2025
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

This workshop is designed to encourage UIC faculty and staff to invest in themselves and create a mentoring plan that is focused on their needs and professional growth. During this hands-on and interactive workshop, we will discuss the benefits of having a mentor network and strategies to foster a community that supports our career development and emotional well-being. We will utilize the NCFDD Mentor Map model to encourage participants to think about mentors who can provide substantive feedback, intellectual community, and much more. We’ll have group discussion to help us think creatively about how and where to identify potential mentors and create action plans to foster relationships with our mentors.
Workshop Learning Objectives:
- Gain a better understanding of where and how mentors can support your development
- Assess your current mentoring networks and practice identifying mentors and areas where you want support and professional development
- Foster space that embraces your identity, intellectual growth, emotional well-being, and feelings of safety
- Network with colleagues who can facilitate conversations around peer mentoring, role modeling, and mutual accountability
