Help This Garden Grow: Hazel Johnson Collage Workshop and Podcast Party
Presented by the Latino Cultural Center and the Black Cultural Center
When: Thursday, April 18, 2024
Time: 1pm-3pm
Where: Latino Cultural Center - Lecture Center B2
Join us for a drop-in open studio as we listen to the first two episodes of the docuseries podcast Help This Garden Grow and make collages around themes of environmental justice!
Help This Garden Grow tells the story of Hazel Johnson, a resident of the far southeast side Chicago neighborhood Altgeld Gardens and founder of People for Community Recovery (PCR). Known as one of the “mothers of environmental justice,” we honor her this Earth Month through artmaking. We will create collages for environmental justice as we listen to the podcast and learn from a multi-generational conversation between organizers, policymakers, and land stewards. We will be joined by community organizers from People for Community Recovery (PCR) and the Southeast Environmental Task Force (SETF).
*Materials will be provided.
For access needs or questions, email lcc@uic.edu or call 312-996-3095. The LCC is wheelchair accessible. All audiences are welcome.
This program is funded by the UIC Sustainability Fund and UIC Honors College.
