DFC Workshop – Understanding Intersectionality: Historical Consequences of Oppression

The UIC Diversity Facilitation Collaborative (DFC) is hosting the upcoming workshop “Understanding Intersectionality: Historical Consequences of Oppression”.
There will be a special focus on identifying systems of oppression within higher education and how participants can work to uphold social justice and equity on UIC’s campus. This workshop will utilize individual reflection and collaborative group work to explore topics.
When: Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 11:30am-1pm
Where: Library 1-470
Through this interactive workshop, participants will:
- Gain a greater understanding of Intersectionality: White Supremacy, Privilege, and Power
- Become better equipped to assess their own positionality and power, and the ways they may contribute to systems of oppression on campus
- Be able to identify the different forms of oppression, from individual to structural in the context of UIC
- Consider ways they can contribute to shifting UIC culture and policies to uphold social justice and equity
- Engage in collaborative work by examining Case Studies
- Actively participate in dialogic process and inquiry
