Have you ever wondered about why the police get called when someone is in a mental health crisis? Or if a bystander thinks someone is having a mental health crisis? Have you ever thought about the ways we respond to mental health on campus? Did you read and/or attend the release for The State of Student Mental Health at UIC: Storytelling for Disability Justice and want to know more?

Join us for a conversation and dreaming session about all of this and more on Thursday October 9. We will define and explore what the word carceral means, talk about how it shows up on campus related responses to mental health, and brainstorm what we should do about it!
Come join us to dream up new ways to keep each other safe!

Audience note: This event is for everyone! All are welcome.

COVID Safety Information: UIC does not require masking, but we are continuing to mask indoors as an accessibility measure for sick/immunocompromised folks and those living interdependently with them. Please wear a mask!* We’ll have extras on hand. Zoom is another Covid-Cautious option.

*If masking conflicts with your access needs, please check in with us! We can work something out.

Access information: This event will provide CART (live captions). The LCC main space is on the first floor and physically accessible. Please skip the cologne or perfume to make this a fragrance reduced environment! Contact dcc@uic.edu or 312-355-7050 with questions or for other access requests.

Flyer Description: A pale pink background with light blue watercolor clouds in each corner. In navy text, the title of the event is written. The event blurb is written in smaller black text (included in caption) on the background and in a light purple oval graphic, with the words surrounding a picture of the front page of "The State of Student Mental Health at UIC" report. The report's front page is a white rectangle with a navy header showing the title and the UIC logo. There are two pictures included on the front page of hand drawn word maps and drawings that students provided for the study. A QR code for the event page is placed in the bottom left corner, above the UIC DCC logo. A QR code for the online copy of the Mental Health Report is placed in the bottom right corner.
