While more Asian Americans are engaged with politics and policy, the community still faces numerous barriers to building its power in the Chicago area and beyond. Despite being the fastest-growing demographic in the city, the state and the nation, Asian Americans remain underrepresented on all levels of government.
On November 19, join WBEZ’s Race, Class, and Communities reporter Esther Yoon-Ji Kang for a conversation on the past, present and future of Asian American political representation and advocacy in the region. This event will feature former Ald. Ameya Pawar, the first Asian American elected to the Chicago City Council; State Rep. Theresa Mah, the first Asian American elected to the Illinois General Assembly; advocacy leader Andy Kang; and others.
