Disability Cultural Center and Disability Resource Center

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

The Office of the Provost, the Office of Diversity, and the Office for Access and Equity are pleased to announce the creation of the Disability Cultural Center (DCC). We have identified space on the first floor of the Daley Library to serve as a temporary location of this new center, effective February 26, 2018. This Spring, a committee will be appointed by the Vice Provost for Diversity to begin the important work of strategic planning for the new Disability Cultural Center.

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) will remain in the Student Services Building and will continue to operate with the existing staff in the Student Services Building to support students with disabilities who require accommodations. The Office for Access and Equity (OAE), which currently facilitates accommodations for faculty and staff, and students enrolled in health science clinical programs, will manage the compliance functions of the DRC. OAE interacts with all university employees and students to fully understand the needs of our community with disabilities.

UIC remains firmly committed to the most fundamental principles of academic freedom, equality of opportunity, and human dignity. To this end, UIC strictly prohibits discrimination or harassment against any person because of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation including gender identity, unfavorable discharge from the military or status as a protected veteran, arrest records, genetic information, citizenship status and/or order of protection status, and will comply with all federal and state nondiscrimination, equal opportunity and affirmative action laws, orders, and regulations. The University’s Nondiscrimination Policy protects persons from discrimination in all terms and conditions of employment, including hiring, selection, promotion, transfer, pay, tenure, discharge, and discipline. It also applies to admissions and access to-/treatment in University programs and activities.
