Examining Feminism in Digital Gaming Culture

With Dr. Kishonna Gray

From #solidarityisforwhitewomen to #MeToo, gaming culture provides an interesting case study to explore the experiences of women within the transmediated spaces of gaming. Drawing from ethnographic observations of gamers and games, this talk will trouble what it means to be a woman inside gaming as well as what feminist contributions to gaming can look like.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Kishonna Gray is an Assistant Professor in Communication and Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is the author of Race, Gender, & Deviance in Xbox Live and at work on another book tentatively titled "On Being Black And....In Contemporary Gaming Culture: The Journey to Intersectionality.”
